For Visitors

We are a small, family based, community centered congregation, a congregation dedicated to serving the Lord and our neighbors in the light of a whole new, symbolic understanding of the Bible, with a special focus on the inner, spiritual life.

Our teachings are deeply rooted in the Bible as expounded particularly by the great Swedish seer, Emmanuel Swedenborg (1688 – 1772). Dozens of books and thousands of articles have been written about Swedenborg, once called “the Aristotle of the North.” To give just a few examples, William James, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Immanuel Kant, William Blake, Helen Keller, and Gorge Borgas, all wrote enthusiastically about him. The entry for him in Wikipedia is pretty accurate. In a nutshell, Swedenborg came from a strong math, science and engineering background combined with a deep spiritual faith, and these two key characteristics provided him with the skills and disposition effectively to observe and document a completely fresh, intellectually satisfying revelation of truly Christian values. Originally written in Latin, his religious writing alone accounts for some 35 volumes in English, and that was in addition to some 30 volumes already published on scientific and philosophical subjects.

You can learn more about the specific teachings of the New Church from our Summary Of Beliefs and of course many of the books either by or about Swedenborg or based on his works are available at the church here in Mitchellville, Maryland.   Please Contact Us for more information.
